Fashion
I have had the opportunity to illustrate several paper collections involving vintage fashion and the accompanying accoutrements. These lines are some of my most favorite collections that I have created for Carta Bella Paper Co. Several years ago I was visiting my son, who lives in Paris. During one of our frequent walks we stumbled upon a beautiful shop that featured vintage Dior and Channel couture. During my trip I had been searching for French ephemera to add to my studio’s reference library. And Viola! I stumbled upon gold. Vintage gold. The shop was adorable with artistic window displays showcasing chic mannequins dressed in vintage couture. It immediately caught my attention and sparked my creativity. This would make a great collection for Carta Bella Paper Co.
Upon arrival back home I pitched the idea to Carta Bella’s creative team and they loved it. And so I was tasked with designing a fun collection featuring vintage clothes and ephemera, with a contemporary sensibility. An Audrey Hepburn meets a Sex In The City vibe. Metropolitan Girl was born and it soon became one of Carta Bella’s most popular collections. A few years later I found myself back in Paris visiting my son. Over dinner he explained to me how crazy life was for him and his colleagues during Paris Fashion Week. He works as an advertising copywriter in brand content creation at a European advertising agency focusing on luxe fashion and cosmetic brands. He shared his hysterical experiences of attending over-the-top Fashion Week parties and runway shows, and how the whole city embraces the season. During dinner, he made it abundantly clear that even though I absolutely love Emily in Paris, the show is not a real representation of Parisian adversing or the fashion world. Ah, but who cares! It’s romantic and fun, and the fantasy makes for great giftware collections. From this memorable Parisian dinner and insightful conversation my second fashion focused Carta Bella Paper Co. collection En Vogue was forged.
